Registration to Commence for Free Small Business Superannuation Clearing House
The Minister for Human Services, Chris Bowen MP, and the Minister for Small Business, Craig Emerson MP, today announced that eligible small businesses will be able register to use the Government's free Small Business Superannuation Clearing House from Monday, 24 May.
"The Small Business Superannuation Clearing House delivers on the Rudd Government's election commitment to reduce the red-tape burden for small businesses associated with the choice of fund rules introduced by the previous Government," Mr Bowen said.
"This free service helps small businesses to save on time and paperwork by enabling them to pay their employees' superannuation to a single location in just one simple electronic transaction.
"The Clearing House will then send the contributions to the appropriate superannuation fund and employers will be able to access a record of their contribution history whenever it's needed."
Dr Emerson said the Clearing House was another instalment in the Government's program of small business support.
"I encourage small businesses with fewer than 20 staff to register early to use the free service online by visiting www.medicareaustralia.gov.au/super," Dr Emerson said.
Registering for the service is easy. Small businesses can enter their business details, and once they receive their login details they can enter their employee's details and finalise the registration online. As previously announced, the service will commence from 1 July 2010.
The Government will deliver the Small Business Superannuation Clearing House through Medicare Australia, which has a strong electronic payment processing capacity and a track record of security of funds.
