Pyne confirms household compensation on the chopping block

Senior Liberal frontbencher Christopher Pyne last night confirmed that assistance to families would face the chopping block under an Abbott-led Government.

We have said that if you remove the carbon tax and you remove the mining tax then all the things that went as part of the compensation for that are up in the air.

We know the Liberals need to fill their $70 billion budget crater and Mr Pyne last night confirmed that they will be looking to rip money out of the pockets of hard-working Australian families.

Fresh from announcing that they will scrap the School Kids Bonus and will increase superannuation taxes for low income earners, the Liberals have now flagged that they will also scrap:

  • The tripling of the tax-free threshold
  • Increases to pensions
  • Tax cuts
  • Increases to family benefits
  • The increase to the superannuation guarantee from nine per cent to 12 per cent
  • The $6,500 instant asset write-off for small businesses

The Gillard Government is providing important support for families to help them with cost of living pressures while the Liberals want to strip money out of their pockets.
