Abbott Squibs Ruling Out Income Tax Hikes and Family Assistance

Tony Abbott has squibbed another opportunity to rule out jacking up income taxes and cutting assistance for families.

Mr Abbott today reiterated his pledge to make 'controversial' cuts to family assistance, including scrapping the School Kids Bonus.

However, Mr Abbott has steadfastly avoided mentioning the fact that getting rid of the assistance measures associated with the carbon price and Minerals Resource Rent Tax will mean higher personal income taxes for hard-working Australians and less family assistance.

An Abbott-led Coalition Government would:

  • Unwind the tripling of the tax-free threshold, meaning that millions of Australians will end up paying more taxes
  • Cut the age pension
  • Cut family benefits
  • Jack up superannuation taxes for 3.6 million Australians
We all know that Mr Abbott needs to fill his $70 billion budget black hole, so he should start being honest with Australians about the cuts that he will make.
