Ten times Tony to rip away tax cuts

Tony Abbott has been strangely silent today on his commitment to slash the tax free threshold by more than $12,000 - from $18,200 to $6,000 - which will mean higher taxes for more than 7 million people.

This is the fact: Mr Abbott wants to cut the tax free threshold by ten times what was deferred today - jacking up taxes for more than 7 million people.

"If there's no tax, there's no need for compensation. Full stop, end of story."

The Labor Government has increased the tax-free threshold so Australians pay less tax. If Mr Abbott is elected, 7 million Australian workers will pay more tax out of their pay packet.

The last time a Government cut the tax free threshold, as Mr Abbott is proposing to do, was during World War II.

Unfortunately, Mr Abbott wouldn't stop there. He would also:

  • Wind back increases to the pension
  • Increase taxes on superannuation for low income workers
  • Remove important tax breaks for small business.

Make no mistake: Mr Abbott will cut support for working Australians to the bone.
