Reappointment of the full-time Inspector-General of Taxation

I am pleased to announce the reappointment of Mr Ali Noroozi as the full-time Inspector-General of Taxation for a further five-year period beginning on 6 November 2013.

Mr Noroozi has been the Inspector‑General of Taxation since September 2008 and has continued to make a valuable contribution to the Australian tax system during that time.

"I would like to congratulate Mr Noroozi on his reappointment as Inspector-General of Taxation," said Mr Bradbury. "His work has ensured that the community can be confident that there is accountability in the administration of the tax system."

The Inspector-General of Taxation Act 2003 (the Act) established an independent statutory agency to:

  • review systems established by the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) to administer the tax laws;
  • review systems established by tax laws in relation to administrative matters; and
  • report on those reviews and make recommendations, as appropriate, on how systems could be improved.

The Inspector-General has an important role in the functioning of our tax system by providing independent oversight of the ATO and helps to underpin community confidence in the tax system.
