Awards for Advancing Financial Literacy

Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, the Hon Bernie Ripoll MP, will tonight present the Outstanding Achievement awards at the inaugural MoneySmart Week awards ceremony in Sydney.

The MoneySmart Week Awards Program recognises organisations and individuals who have worked tirelessly to advance Australians' financial literacy. September 2-8 is the first annual MoneySmart Week.

MoneySmart Week is an initiative of the Australian Government Financial Literacy Board, chaired by Mr Paul Clitheroe AM. The Week is supported by four teams of volunteers from over 50 organisations in the business, community and government sectors.

The key call to action during this year's MoneySmart Week is for Australians to 'Do a Money Health Check' and start taking control of their money.

The Money Health Check will ask some easy to answer questions and gives some simple to follow hints and tips.

Completing a Money Health Check can be done by going to www.moneysmartweek.org.au and following the prompts.  MoneySmart Week supports the 'Partnership' strand of the National Financial Literacy Strategy. The Strategy aims to enhance the financial wellbeing of all Australians by improving financial literacy levels and has four pillars

  • Education through schools and other pathways
  • Providing trusted and independent information, tools and ongoing support
  • Recognising the limits of education and information and developing additional innovative solutions to drive improved financial wellbeing and behavioural change
  • Working in partnership with the many sectors involved with financial literacy, measuring our impact and promoting best practice
