Tax Consultation Enhanced Through Launch of Tax Issues Entry System

The Assistant Treasurer, Chris Bowen MP, today announced the launch of the Tax Issues Entry System (TIES).

“TIES is a single entry point for tax professionals and the community to raise minor policy and administrative issues relating to the care and maintenance of the tax and superannuation systems,” Mr Bowen said.

“Care and maintenance issues involve ensuring the existing tax and superannuation laws operate in the way they were intended – for example, by correcting technical or drafting defects, removing anomalies and addressing unintended outcomes.  The Government is committed to ensuring that issues of this kind are routinely dealt with.”

“I encourage tax professionals and members of the community to use TIES.”

With the launch of TIES, the Government is delivering on one of the recommendations from the Tax Design Review Panel’s report Better Tax Design and Implementation.  The Board of Taxation will review the operation of TIES after 12 months.

TIES can be accessed at www.ties.gov.au, by mailing your issues to TIES at GPO Box 3275 Canberra ACT 2601 or by phoning 1300 788 317.
