Coalition back flips on mining tax package

The Coalition has massively back flipped on their policy to repeal the mining tax package, with Joe Hockey revealing they will keep a key element.

Mr Hockey is quoted today as saying the Coalition will keep the extension of the Petroleum Resource Rent Tax to onshore projects, a key revenue-raising aspect of the mining tax package.

"Those in the industry paying the PRRT have been generally comfortable with this."

This is despite spending the past three years peddling a ridiculous scare campaign, claiming they will repeal the mining tax package and all policies associated with it – a period during which we've seen an unprecedented level of mining investment in Australia.

"The tax is going to go under the Coalition… The expenditure against it is going to go."

(Joe Hockey – Doorstop – 8 February 2013)

The Coalition has been caught out telling porkies on their mining tax policy. They should come clean with the Australian people about their real plans.
