Hockey refuses to rule out cutting assistance for families and pensioners

Shadow Treasurer Joe Hockey has again refused to rule out cutting assistance for families and pensioners under a Coalition government.

Speaking in Prestons, in the seat of Werriwa, today, Mr Hockey would not rule out making these savage cuts:

JOURNALIST:

Will any of the compensation from the Carbon Tax remain?

JOE HOCKEY:

I am not going to get into a speculation about it.

JOURNALIST:

Tony Abbott has said it will.

JOE HOCKEY:

I am not getting into speculation.

Tony Abbott's already confirmed he'll rip $15,000 in Schoolkids Bonus payments away from the average Australian family with two kids over the course of their schooling.

Mr Hockey wants to cut vital assistance for families and pensioners in Werriwa, including:

  • Winding back tax cuts for more than 54,000 people;
  • Scrapping increases in payments for 20,600 pensioners;
  • Cutting assistance payments for 15,800 families; and
  • Ripping away the Schoolkids Bonus for 12,025 families.

Mr Hockey can't keep hiding his plans to savagely cut this assistance. He needs to front up to Australian families and pensioners and tell them exactly what the Coalition will cut.
