Hockey Applauds Souris Appointment

The Federal Minister for Financial Services and Regulation, Joe Hockey, today congratulated George Souris on his elevation to the leadership of the NSW National Party.

"I have known George for 10 years, both as a friend and through working with him. George was instrumental in the privatisation of GIO, one of NSW’s pioneering asset sales," Mr Hockey said.

"George will have enormous support in the business community, which has dealt with him successfully in the past when he was Minister for Finance and Assistant Treasurer of NSW. Furthermore, George understands the challenges facing NSW businesses.

"He has always displayed the highest standards of integrity.

"George has a deep commitment to his constituents. He prides himself on servicing his electorate despite often competing demands.

"George is committed to the bush. This commitment is a reflection of the National Party’s natural representation of rural communities, along with the new wave of professionals choosing to live in country areas.

"I have had the opportunity of working with Ian Armstrong. Ian has been a dedicated and hard-working leader of the National Party in NSW. I wish him well in whatever role he chooses to pursue.

"With Kerry Chikarovski and George Souris, the Coalition has a strong team leading into the election, and indeed a strong team ready to govern NSW."
