ONE.TEL and Direct Debit

It has come to my attention that some One.Tel customers are still being direct debited even though the company has been in administration for well over a month.

Last night I wrote to the Australian Bankers Association to remind the banks of their obligation to customers.

I have also written to the One.Tel administrator informing him of my concerns that customers might still be having money deducted from their accounts.

The contractual relationship is between the customer and their bank.

A bank customer can cancel a direct debit at anytime and all financial institutions must accept this.

Customers shouldn't pay for services or products they don't get.

If they have any problems they should call the Australian Banking Industry Ombudsman on 1800 337 444.
