TREASURER:
Could I say this about credit cards. I’ve been speaking with the Council of Financial Regulators for a number of weeks. I’ve asked the Treasury to work with them to get some responses on credit cards. Credit card rates are too high, but we’ve got to take this from a different angle. We’re not going to stand in the way of any Senate inquiries.
JOURNALIST:
Treasurer what do you think of parents being charged for state schools?
TREASURER:
It’s not our policy.
JOURNALIST:
Do you rule it out?
TREASURER:
Well, I think Christopher Pyne will be doing that later.
JOURNALIST:
Can I go back to [inaudible] about parents being charged for public schools?
TREASURER:
Yeah look, it’s not our policy, it’s not our policy. The States run the schools and it’s obviously not something that we’re interested in.
JOURNALIST:
But do you worry about the impact it would have on our Commonwealth?
TREASURER:
I think you’re speculating about something that isn’t policy and isn’t going to happen.
JOURNALIST:
So it won’t happen under an Abbott Government?
TREASURER:
I don’t think so, you’ll hear from the Minister for Education a little bit later. I think it’s best that he talk about it rather than me. Any questions?

Would you support all school funding being handed over to the State and Territory Governments?
TREASURER:
I’m not getting [inaudible], okay thanks.
