The Morrison Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Ms Clare Savage as the full-time Chair and State/Territory member of the Australian Energy Regulator (AER), for a five year period commencing from 14 October 2019.
The AER is responsible for regulating energy networks, retailers and wholesale markets. It also protects the interests of household and small business consumers by enforcing the National Energy Retail Law.
Ms Savage has extensive experience in electricity and gas market design, network pricing, retail market regulation and energy governance.
Most recently, through her role as the Independent Deputy Chair of the Energy Security Board, Ms Savage promoted better co-ordination between each of the three energy market bodies to enable a whole of system approach and oversaw the delivery of a number of key Finkel Review recommendations.
The skills and experience Ms Savage brings to the AER will help ensure the energy sector is effectively monitored and operating in the best interests of Australian consumers and the economy. The Government looks forward to her leadership on the important work of the AER.
The Government wishes to thank outgoing AER Chair Ms Paula Conboy for her leadership over the past five years. Ms Conboy made a significant contribution during her time as AER Chair.
Maintaining a strong and effective energy regulator is part of the Morrison Government's plan to ensure the National Electricity Market is operating in the best interests of Australian consumers and businesses.
