Labor Shuffling the Deck Chairs on the Sunken Titanic

Labor attempted today to sneak through a major reshuffle of their poorly performing Shadow Ministry.

This move is a desperate attempt to plug Labor's talent and credibility void on economic matters, and not, as Mr Beazley said, to give the Opposition a new direction on policy reform.

Senator Sherry, who last night attempted to sabotage the high income superannuation surcharge legislation, has lost his Finance responsibilities and has been renamed "Assistant Shadow Treasurer".

The Australian public should not hold out any hope chat with this re-badging of Senator Sherry will come a more co-operative attitude from Labor to the Government's attempts to make the superannuation system fairer.

Senator Sherry has distinguished himself by relentlessly attempting to protect union interests at the expense of workers and to continuing the Keating Labor tradition of protecting the "top end of town", as evidenced by his approach to the high income superannuation surcharge.

The Government is committed to vigorously pressing its superannuation reforms, no matter how many obstacles or reshuffles Labor throws in our way.
