Tax Deductibility to the National Nurses' Memorial Trust Fnd

The Assistant Treasurer, Senator Rod Kemp, today announced that the Government would amend the income tax law to extend the period which tax deductible gifts can be made to the National Nurses’ Memorial Trust Fund.

Tax deductibility to the Fund will be extended by four months for the period 4 September 1999 up to an including 3 January 2000, and will apply to gifts of $2 or more.

The Trust Fund was founded by the Royal College of Nursing, Australia with the primary objective being to support the commemoration of Nurses and their achievements relevant to Australia’s history.

In particular, the Fund was established to raise money for the construction of an Australian Service Nurses’ memorial on Anzac Parade in Canberra, commemorating nurses who have served in war and otherwise in the service of Australia.

Legislation to give effect to this decision will be introduced as soon as practicable and taxpayers should ensure they receive a receipt for their donations.
