Signing of the historic right to repair Heads of Agreement

Today I am pleased to announce that I witnessed the signing of a Heads of Agreement between participants in the automotive supply and service industry.

Since the release of the CCAAC report in 2012, a number of key industry participants have been working towards a heads of agreement to establish principles for the sharing of vehicle repair and service information.

The consensus between all parties is a significant achievement for the rights of consumers and all automotive businesses, big and small. This Agreement will support motorists accessing efficient and affordable servicing and repair for the safe and proper maintenance of their vehicles.

My key focus has been to ensure consumers are provided with the right information to make informed decisions when it comes to the repair and servicing of their vehicles. In addition, my aim has been to ensure that repair and servicing businesses are operating across a level playing field.

The signing of this historic Agreement also signals that the considerable challenges of bringing all signatories together in this area of considerable contention has been resolved.

I believe this Agreement ensures that consumers are well informed and have choice as to who repairs their vehicle. It also addresses issues raised by industry stakeholders through the supply and service chains to consumers.
