Research from Labor frontbencher Wayne Swan shows that consumers in his seat of Lilley enjoyed lower prices following the introduction of the New Tax System.
Swan's Lilley Price Watch shows that prices in August fell in 26 of 27 supermarkets in his electorate [see attached extract].
In his 6 September newsletter Swan tells constituents that, "overall prices have dropped by $1.72 or 1.67% since July 1".
"This shows once and for all that scare mongering on the GST has hoisted the ALP with its own petard," Minister Hockey said.
