Speech to the Infrastructure Symposium – Local infrastructure is important

Today at the Innovations in Infrastructure Symposium, the Hon Kelly O'Dwyer MP, Federal Member for Higgins and Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, delivered a briefing on the new G20 Global Infrastructure Hub, including an overview of its structure and intended objectives, and how it relates to the broader G20 agenda and the Australian Government's infrastructure priorities.

The Global Infrastructure Hub is an initiative to lift quality public and private infrastructure investment in Australia and across the globe.

Ms O'Dwyer spoke about the importance of infrastructure on a daily basis at a local level.

"My electorate of Higgins has the dubious honour of having three of the ten most dangerous level crossings in Victoria. Not only are level crossings dangerous, but they inhibit economic activity in my electorate and throughout Melbourne, as well as greatly frustrating residents and reducing the choices available to their families," Ms O’Dwyer said.

Ms O'Dwyer has long been campaigning for the removal of level crossings in the local area, tabling a petition in the Federal Parliament in 2012 with over 1,000 signatures.

Now the Andrews' Government must act to give firm timing on when this will be achieved.
