Today I have released the 2025–26 Tax Expenditures and Insights Statement.
This annual statement details how features of our tax system affect individuals, businesses and other entities, as well as the pressures they place on the budget.

Commonwealth overrules exclusion clauses for Bondi attack insurance claims
Today, we have declared Sunday’s Bondi attack a terrorist incident for the purposes of the Terrorism and Cyclone Insurance Act 2003, based on advice from relevant agencies and following consultation with the Minister for Home Affairs.
This will ensure businesses can lodge insurance claims related to the Bondi terrorist attack.

Mandating cash acceptance
We’re delivering on our commitment to mandate cash acceptance for essential purchases by finalising regulations that require fuel and grocery retailers to accept cash from 1 January 2026.
We’re making it mandatory for businesses to accept cash when they sell these essential items.
