Jim Chalmers 2022
The Hon Dr Jim Chalmers MP
Treasurer
Interview with Peter Stefanovic, Sky News
PETER STEFANOVIC:
Australia’s third largest airline, Rex, which specialises in regional travel, has gone into voluntary administration.
We’re being assured though this morning that regional flights will still be maintained in some capacity. The company expanded in the capital city routes after COVID, a decision which now looks as though it backfired.
Interview with Natalie Barr, Sunrise, Channel 7
NATALIE BARR:
Good morning to you. So, the government says it doesn’t want Rex to fold. Obviously no one does. And you’re looking at the books, are you? What are you finding?
JIM CHALMERS:
Strengthening climate collaboration across the Tasman
Australia and New Zealand will work closely together to unlock the vast economic opportunities on offer from the transformation to cleaner and cheaper energy in areas such as low‑carbon liquid fuels, transport and sustainable finance.
Next step towards merger reform for a more competitive economy
The Albanese Government has released draft legislation to reform Australia’s merger rules and boost competition and productivity in our economy.
Our new reforms will make our merger approval system faster, stronger, simpler, more targeted and more transparent.
Strengthening foreign resident capital gains tax rules
The Albanese Labor Government is making sure foreign residents pay their fair share of tax, advancing important new measures to improve the integrity of the foreign resident capital gains tax rules.
Building on the Government’s work to improve tax compliance, the reforms will make sure foreign residents who own property in Australia pay tax when they sell these properties.
Opinion piece: Australia can be an island of decency and opportunity in a violent and divided world
For much of the time I’ve travelled for my job, my friend Judy has worked the early shift at Brisbane airport. She personifies what we love about Australia and Australians – irreverent and upfront.
When I saw Judy first thing on Wednesday, en route to regional Queensland, she captured a widely held fear when she said: ‘The world has gone off its rocker.’
Joint doorstop interview, Cairns
MICHAEL HEALY:
I’m proud to be standing here today with the federal Treasurer and just as importantly, senior ministers at both the state and federal government when it comes to TAFE and when it comes to education, when it comes to more importantly, investing in our future.
