Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers joins me for that final push from the government. Good morning to you Minister, how are you this morning?

JIM CHALMERS:

Good morning Kelly, it's kind of you to have me on your show. Thanks very much.

The Federal Treasurer Jim Chalmers speaking to us, thanks for waiting for us, Jim standing in the heat there in Logan. How confident are you about your chances of victory today? How do you rate your chances today?

JIM CHALMERS:

Queensland is the only state in the Commonwealth that is home to the two oldest, living, continuous cultures in the world.

We have a higher total number and proportion of first nations people than most other states.

We have the most to gain from a successful referendum on Saturday, but we also have the most to lose if we let this opportunity pass us by.

This Voice referendum is a generational opportunity to do things differently and do things better for the first of us, in a way that could lift all of us up together.

It’s not an idea that has come from politicians like me. It’s come from Indigenous Australians themselves, years ago at Uluru.

It’s based on something very simple: listening.

The Albanese Government’s responsible budget strategy has seen Australia move up the global league table for fiscal management, according to figures released overnight by the International Monetary Fund.

The Albanese Government is addressing the risks posed by new digital payment services, which are currently unregulated, to protect consumers, promote competition and spur innovation.

The Australian Government has today launched Invested: Australia's Southeast Asia Economic Strategy to 2040 to deepen Australia's economic engagement with our region and ensure our shared future prosperity.

Peter Costello advised the Government a fortnight ago of his decision not to seek a third term as Chair of the Future Fund.

We thank Mr Costello for his significant contribution as a board member and then Chair over the past 14 years. He leaves with the Government’s appreciation and respect.

Workers are a step closer to more dependable superannuation payments with the release of the Securing Australians’ Superannuation consultation paper.

As part of the 2023-24 Budget, the Albanese Government announced that from 1 July 2026, super must be paid on payday, a change that will benefit the retirement incomes of millions of Australians.

The Productivity Commission will undergo significant workplace reform after an independent review found the need to improve its internal culture.

Following a complaint, the Treasury commissioned an independent review into the Productivity Commission’s workplace culture.
