The Albanese Government has committed to partner with Australia’s charities and not-for-profits to build the capacity of the sector and enhance the role of charities building community and boosting participation.
The Government is committed to ensuring that, over the coming years, the Australian Charities and Not‑for‑profits Commission (ACNC) works constructively with charities not only to uphold laws and regulations, but to strengthen our social fabric.
Therefore, the Government is seeking expressions of interest from people interested in joining the ACNC Advisory Board to ensure that the Commissioner has the necessary support to navigate contemporary issues and fulfil a new vision for the ACNC.
The Advisory Board is a crucial pool of skills and experience whose advice allows the Commissioner to work efficiently, effectively, and in harmony with the charity sector.
Assistant Minster for Competition, Charities and Treasury Andrew Leigh said the ACNC Advisory Board would be critical to the new ACNC Commissioner’s efforts to reinvigorate the charity sector.
“There has been a serious decline in volunteering and community engagement in recent decades, and Liberal’s war on charities only made the problem worse. After nine years of neglect under the Coalition there is a great deal of work ahead to help the charity sector rebuild” he said.
“In the Albanese Government, the charity sector has a true partner. We will work collaboratively with charities to reconnect Australia. The ACNC Advisory Board has an important role to play in that work” he said.
