I am pleased to note the announcement by the Attorney-General, The Hon Nicola Roxon MP, of the appointment of Ms Kathleen Farrell, President of the Takeovers Panel, as a judge of the Federal Court.
I congratulate Ms Farrell on her appointment and thank her for leading the Panel over the past two years and for her outstanding contribution as a Panel member since 2001.
Ms Farrell will take up appointment on 5 December 2012. Acting arrangements are in place for the presidency of the Panel until the Government appoints a successor to Ms Farrell.
The Government is considering a range of suitable candidates to assume the presidency of the Panel and I will be making a relevant announcement in due course.
