Parliamentary Secretary for the Treasurer, the Hon Bernie Ripoll MP, today announced the opening of the Australian Bureau of Statistics' CensusAtSchool for 2013.
Aimed at primary and secondary students, CensusAtSchool is an engaging online questionnaire and data resource that asks simple questions about students' everyday lives, experiences, opinions and interests.
"I am excited to support the CensusAtSchool project," Mr Ripoll said. "It is a great way of getting our students interested and involved in statistics."
Once the questionnaire closes, CensusAtSchool data for 2013 is available free through an online random sampler, which gives students the power to create their own tables and make comparisons between themselves and peers.
"Once students are able to see and interact with the CensusAtSchool data, it will help them understand the importance and value of statistics in their lives," Mr Ripoll said.
CensusAtSchool is supported by a suite of free online resources, provided to assist teachers across year levels to use authentic data to teach statistical concepts and develop students' statistical literacy.
The CensusAtSchool questionnaire will be available to all Australian teachers and students until 19 July this year, with data available for free from 26 July 2013.
