Ripoll Celebrates First Anniversary of MoneySmart

Parliamentary to the Treasurer, Bernie Ripoll, today congratulated the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) on the first anniversary of its MoneySmart website.

"MoneySmart was developed to promote financial literacy and education across the Australian community," Mr Ripoll said.

"Twelve months later you would have to say it has been a resounding success."

28,000 people per month are using the Budget Planner and 6,000 people per month are using the Retirement Planner.

75,000 people have downloaded the MoneySmart iPhone app.

A recent Sweeney Research Report found that 91 per cent of MoneySmart users had taken specific action as a result of visiting the website.

The Gillard Government is determined to boost the financial literacy of Australians, in order to enable them to have more direct control of their finances.

"I congratulate ASIC on the success of MoneySmart and look forward to seeing the future plans they have for the site come to fruition," Mr Ripoll said.
