Its Time for Tony and Joe to Put Up or Shut Up

It's time for the Leader of the Opposition, Tony Abbott and the Shadow Treasurer, Joe Hockey to match every single cent of the Government's tax cuts, pension rises and increased payments, Assistant Treasurer Bill Shorten said today.

Mr Abbott and Mr Hockey have been walking both sides of the street on their phantom tax plan for too long.

"It's time for them to put up or shut up," Mr Shorten said.

"Tony Abbott should guarantee that he will match every single cent in tax cuts, pension increases and family payments - today."

"And he should guarantee he'll match those measures when they are projected to increase."

"If he can't, it can only mean one thing - he'll claw money back from 8 million Australians, leaving millions out of pocket.

Mr Shorten also called on the Opposition to pledge that consumers would not be left in the lurch if he was successful in his plan to rescind carbon pricing.

"Does he really believe that companies will simply lower their prices and not try to rip consumers off under rollback?" Mr Shorten said.

"And what will become of clean energy projects that have been funded and are underway - will he leave them half complete or will he pay millions in compensation to proponents as a result - what will be the bill?"
