The Assistant Treasurer, Chris Bowen MP, today announced his agreement to extend the reporting of the Productivity Commission reviews into Gambling and Parallel Importation of Books into Australia.
The Productivity Commission requested the extensions following delays in receiving a number of submissions from key stakeholders and extensive consultation requirements.
"It is pleasing to see the active engagement from the community in the review process. It is also important that the Commission is allowed sufficient time to fully consider those submissions," Mr Bowen said.
The inquiry into Gambling was due to report back to Government on 24 November 2009, and will now report back by 26 February 2010.
The final report into the Parallel Importation of Books into Australia was due to be handed to the Government by 13 May; it will now be handed to Government by 30 June 2009.
These extensions will allow the Commission sufficient time to fully consider those submissions in finalising their reports.
