The Minister for Financial Services, Superannuation and Corporate Law, Chris Bowen MP, today announced the reappointment of Mr Joseph Gersh AM as Chair and Mrs Marian Micalizzi as a member and the appointment of Ms Jan Bowe as a member of the Board of the Australian Reinsurance Pool Corporation (ARPC).
The reappointments and appointment are each for a three-year period from 1 July 2009 up to and including 30 June 2012.
The ARPC was established to administer the Australian Government's terrorism insurance scheme. The scheme provides reinsurance cover for terrorism risk relating to commercial property and infrastructure, and associated business interruption and public liability claims. The scheme, which commenced on 1 July 2003, was established following the withdrawal of commercial terrorism insurance cover in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in the United States on 11 September 2001.
Mr Gersh is Executive Chairman of Gersh Investment Partners Pty Ltd. He has several board memberships, including as a director of the Payments Systems Board, and was formerly a partner at Arnold Bloch Leibler for over fifteen years. Mr Gersh has been Chair of the ARPC since 2003.
Mrs Micalizzi is a chartered accountant with over twenty-five years' experience, including as a former partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers. Mrs Micalizzi has been an ARPC Board member since 2003.
Ms Bowe has held various senior roles in corporate strategy and planning in the finance sector, including with NRMA Motoring and Services, Suncorp-Metway and Commonwealth Bank. Ms Bowe has also held senior corporate strategy and operations roles in the mining sector.
"These appointments will continue the high level of skills and experience available to the ARPC, ensuring that the ARPC has appropriately qualified members to deal with the differing issues which arise," Minister Bowen said.
"I would also like to express my appreciation for the significant contribution that MrAndrew Lumsden has made to the ARPC in the past," Minister Bowen said.
Mr Lumsden has been a member of the ARPC since 2003.
