Chris Pearce today announced that the Australian Government will host the 2007 National Consumer Congress.
“The Congress is a major event on the consumer policy calendar, it will provide an important opportunity for the Government to obtain firsthand the views of attendees on key consumer issues and perspectives on the way forward in the area of consumer policy,” said Mr Pearce.
Next year's Congress will provide a forum for discussion of consumer issues by government, academics, business and consumer and community groups. The event will seek to provide informed national and international perspectives on aspects of consumer policy.
The 2007 Congress will focus on the changing environment of consumer policy, exploring three key themes from both a national and international perspective:
- new consumer challenges and trends;
- frameworks for responding to change; and
- future directions in consumer policy.
The 2007 Congress will be held at the RACV Club in Melbourne on 14‑15 March 2007 to coincide with World Consumer Rights Day on 15 March.
