Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer Chris Pearce today announced that the ABS will be conducting a national household survey on the education and training experience of Australians.
Mr. Pearce said similar surveys have previously been conducted in 1993, 1997 and 2001, and it is the ABS’s intention to repeat the survey every four years.
“Between May and July of this year, approximately 14,000 households throughout Australia will be personally interviewed. Information collected will include details of education and training participation, educational attainment, access to education and training, labour force status and work history, and access to computers and the Internet in the home. The ABS will also collect socio-economic and demographic information, including income”.
“The survey results, which I expect to be available early in 2006, will provide information on the links between education, training and employment, and will assist in the development and evaluation of policies relating to education and training”.
“The collected data will provide a valuable insight into education and training experiences and needs across the nation for use by Federal and State Government Departments, academic researchers, and non-government bodies”.
“Those involved in this survey can do so with the knowledge that their information remains confidential to the ABS and they are making a worthwhile contribution to future planning for the educational and training requirements of all Australians”, Mr. Pearce said.
