Strong Direction for Treasury Agencies

Chris Pearce, the Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, welcomed the announcement in the Federal Budget funding of more than $800 million to agencies within his portfolio.

I am working closely with these key agencies within the Treasury portfolio. They perform a critical function in the providing structural support to the Australian economy and facilitating an open and transparent market.

The agencies within the Parliamentary Secretary's portfolio have received the following funding for 2006/07 from this Budget:

  • $414 million to the Australian Bureau of Statistics
  • More than $105 million to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission which includes a boost of $115.3 million over four years
  • Over $265 million to the Australian Securities and Investments Commission which includes $234.6 million boost in funding over four years
  • $28.5 million to the Productivity Commission
  • $1.1 million to Corporations and Markets Advisory Committee
  • $11 million to Royal Australian Mint

The Treasury agencies do a wonderful job and these Budget measures will help ensure they continue to provide continuing support to the Australian economy.
