I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Stephen King as a part-time Councillor of the National Competition Council until 17 December 2012.
Mr King is currently the Dean of the Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University. He is a distinguished academic economist specialising in applied microeconomic theory and industrial organisation and regulation. He has extensive experience in competition policy issues, including as a previous member of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission.
The NCC is an advisory body which was established in 1995 by agreement of the Council of Australian Governments (COAG).
The NCC's main function is to make recommendations under the National Access Regime in Part IIIA of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010. The NCC also makes recommendations and decisions under the National Gas Law.
The NCC has a part-time President and three part-time Councillors.
