Abbott and Hockey should be honest with their own numbers

Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey today demanded an 'honest Budget' while at the same time withholding their own costings until the dying days of the election, said Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury.

"Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey demanded Budget honesty - this takes hypocrisy to a whole new level. They should start by telling us how they will pay for the $70 billion black hole in their own costings," said Mr Bradbury.

"The Government's numbers are on the table and updated regularly for the public to scrutinise. It is the Coalition that is desperately trying to avoid any scrutiny of the real costs of their policies.

"Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey have openly admitted they have a secret list of policies under lock and key - just like Campbell Newman did before he was elected and slashed 4,000 health jobs including nurses and doctors.

"This is the same Tony Abbott and Joe Hockey who had their $11 billion black hole at the last election signed off by accountants that were later reprimanded for professional misconduct.

"Tony Abbott is on the record as saying that a Liberal Government would scrap the assistance packages associated with the carbon price and Minerals Resource Rent Tax.

  • Will he rule out cutting the age pension?
  • Will he rule out unwinding the tripling of the tax-free threshold?
  • Will he rule out cutting Family Tax Benefits?
  • Will he rule out removing the instant asset write-off for small business?
  • Will he rule out scrapping the increase superannuation guarantee from 9 to 12 per cent by 2020?

"Tony Abbott needs to come clean with the Australian people about what assistance he would cut to fill his massive budget black hole."
