Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury today released the Commonwealth Consumer Affairs Advisory Council (CCAAC) final report, Sharing of repair information in the automotive industry.
"CCAAC undertook extensive consultation with the automotive repair industry in the course of preparing this paper, and I would like to thank CCAAC for their work", Mr Bradbury said.
CCAAC found that while there is a relatively low level of consumer detriment associated with the accessibility of repair information at this time, this could change over time if this became a barrier to entry to the market for repairs. On the other hand, relatively simple steps could be taken to improve access to repair information for independent repairers.
CCAAC urged the industry to expedite current processes to develop an appropriate outcome in response to this issue and will continue to engage with the industry to support this.
The Government will continue to closely monitor processes developed by industry and issues in this important market.
