Hobart tax help volunteers acknowledged

Hobart volunteers with the Australian Taxation Office's Tax Help programs have today been recognised for their contributions to the local community.

Assistant Treasurer David Bradbury thanked the 13 Tax Help volunteers who participated in this year's program at a special ceremony in Hobart.

Among this year's volunteers in Hobart were Dick Newton and Lance Storrie who have served as Tax Help volunteers for 15 years, and Daniel Hulme who has served for five years.

"Now in its 24th year, Tax Help is a fantastic program that gives people on low incomes with straightforward tax matters access to specially trained volunteers to help them with their tax returns.

"It is a free service that operates around the country each year out of local community facilities, including 14 centres in the Hobart region.

"Hobart's 13 volunteers helped almost 900 clients between July and October and lodged 700 tax returns.

"What makes this service so valuable is the dedication of the volunteers who staff each Tax Help centre.

"With often enormous demand for their services, they donate their time and their skills to helping others in the community and I thank them for their important work."
