Respected consumer advocate Delia Rickard has been formally appointed to the role of Deputy Chairperson of the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).
"I am pleased to announce that the Governor-General has appointed long-time consumer policy advocate Delia Rickard as a full-time Deputy Chairperson of the ACCC, after she received the unanimous support of the States and Territories" said Assistant Treasurer, David Bradbury.
In January 2011, the Gillard Government introduced a single national Australian Consumer Law to be enforced and administered by the ACCC in conjunction with State and Territory agencies.
"Having a person with Ms Rickard's experience in consumer protection in the position of ACCC Deputy Chairperson will support the ongoing implementation of the Australian Consumer Law," said Mr Bradbury.
Ms Rickard's appointment is for a period of five years beginning on 4 June 2012, and follows the departure of the former Deputy Chairperson, Mr Peter Kell, who left his role to take up a position as a Commissioner of ASIC.
