Deductibility of Gifts to the Aboriginal Education Council (NSW) Incorporated

The Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Senator Helen Coonan, has announced that from today, gifts to the value of $2 or more made to the Aboriginal Education Council (NSW) Incorporated will be deductible for income tax purposes.

The Aboriginal Education Council (NSW) Incorporated (the Council) has been established for the advancement of Aboriginal people in NSW through the provision of greater educational opportunities at all levels. This is achieved by providing non-means tested scholarship and educational resources such as equipment and the funding of educational projects for indigenous people.

"Tax deductible gift status will help the Council attract public support for its activities," Senator Coonan said.

"Legislation to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable.

"Taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their donation."
