Donations to the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation Limited of $2 or more will be deductible for income tax purposes, the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Senator Helen Coonan announced today.
The principal activity of the Alcohol Education and Rehabilitation Foundation is to administer funding grants for the benefit of the treatment, research and prevention of alcohol and other licit substance misuse.
"The Foundation makes a significant contribution towards the prevention of alcohol and other licit substance misuse," Senator Coonan said.
"Supporting the Foundation through granting the organisation deductible gift recipient status would help attract public support for its activities. This will also allow the Foundation to give greater priority to Australians that are particularly at risk".
Legislation to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable. Taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their donation.
