Deductibility of Gifts to the Shrine of Remembrance

The Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer Senator Helen Coonan, announced that from today to 2 July 2004, gifts to the value of $2 or more to the Shrine of Remembrance Foundation will be deductible for income tax purposes.

The Shrine of Remembrance Foundation was established to raise funds for the establishment, management and maintenance of the Galleries of Remembrance and other educational, operational and management functions at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.

Senator Coonan said tax deductible gift status would help the Foundation attract public support for its activities.

"Legislation to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable," Senator Coonan said.

"Taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their donation."
