Donations of $2 or more made to the St Patrick’s Cathedral Parramatta Rebuilding Fund will continue to be tax deductible until 30 June 2004, the Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Senator Helen Coonan, announced today.
The Fund assists the Parramatta community to rebuild St Patrick's Cathedral which was destroyed by fire on 19 February 1996.
“The Cathedral is of historical significance to not only the Parramatta community but Sydney itself,” Senator Coonan said.
“It is an important and symbolic link with Australia's past.”
Deductions for gifts to the Fund will now apply from 25 February 1998 until 30 June 2004.
Legislation to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable.
Taxpayers should ensure they receive a receipt for their donation.
