Gifts of $2 or more made to the Victorian Crime Stoppers Program will be deductible for income tax purposes, Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Senator Helen Coonan announced today.
“Crime Stoppers is a community based initiative which encourages members of the public to provide information on unsolved crimes, wanted people and people they know are involved in criminal activity,” Senator Coonan said.
“It is a unique program that is based on collaborative efforts between the community, police and the media to help crack down on crime.
“Tax deductible gift status will help Crime Stoppers attract public support for their activities which help make our communities safe.”
Legislation to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable. Tax deductibility for gifts made to Victorian Crime Stoppers will apply from 23 April 2004.
Taxpayers should ensure that they receive a receipt for their
donation.
