Donations made to help build a memorial to Bali bombing victims Craig Dunn and Danny Lewis will be tax deductible, Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer, Senator Helen Coonan announced today.
"From today, gifts of $2 or more made to the Dunn and Lewis Youth Development Foundation will be deductible for income tax purposes," Senator Coonan said.
"The Bali tragedy affected the whole of Australia and the Foundation will ensure that the two young victims from the Ulladulla community, Craig Dunn and Danny Lewis, are remembered.
The Foundation will build a complex to serve as both a memorial and a vocational training centre to link young people in Ulladulla with traineeships and other employment opportunities.
"The complex will be invaluable to the community both as a reminder of the two boys and as a recreational and educational outlet for people in the Ulladulla region," Senator Coonan said.
Legislation to give effect to this announcement will be introduced as soon as practicable.
Taxpayers should ensure they retain a receipt for their donation to allow them to claim a tax deduction. Tax deductible donations can be made until 9 November 2005.
