Tax Office Creates 35 New Jobs for Hobart

Assistant Treasurer and Minister for Revenue Senator Helen Coonan has announced that the Australian Taxation Office will soon begin recruiting for 35 new positions in its Hobart office.

"The ATO will be opening a new contact centre in Hobart in March next year to significantly enhance the service offered by the Tax Office Superannuation Infoline," Senator Coonan said.

"The new facility will mean inquiries by phone and by mail will be dealt with more quickly and effectively.

"This new facility will handle 20% of all mail inquiries, while the telephony section will field calls to the Tax Office 13 10 20 Superannuation Infoline from both Victoria and Tasmania.

"Importantly, the centre will also create job opportunities for Tasmanians and provide a boost for the local economy."

Senator Coonan said recruitment for these positions will commence in January.

"This new contact centre means the Tax Office Superannuation Business Line now has facilities in all states of Australia, continuing the Government's commitment to improving both service delivery and employment around the nation," Senator Coonan said.

"Tasmania is a particularly attractive location to expand ATO operations because of its skilled, well educated and stable workforce.

"The decision to open the new centre in Tasmania is a clear acknowledgment that the State is an attractive place to do business, and should never be overlooked by employers seeking new business opportunities.

"I hope that with any further expansions the ATO would consider the opportunities that Tasmania offers."
