Certification of Queensland Gas Access Regime

The Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Senator Ian Campbell, said today he had received the National Competition Council's recommendation on certification of the Queensland Gas Access Regime under the Trade Practices Act 1974.

He was now required to decide whether the access regime was an effective access regime for the service.

"In making that decision, it is clearly important that I am in a position to consider all of the relevant facts. Accordingly, I have asked the National Competition Council to place its final recommendation to me on its website," Senator Campbell said.

"Should any interested party wish to provide me with additional material relevant to my decision, they should do so by 21 February."

Certification as an "effective" access regime means the State in question is the relevant regime for third parties seeking access to certain services. Once a regime is certified, services covered by it cannot be declared under Part 111A of the TPA (National Access Regime).
