The Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Senator Ian Campbell, today welcomed the final report of the National Review into Home Builders' Warranty Insurance and Consumer Protection.
The Commonwealth Government worked with the State and Territory Governments to review their home builder warranty schemes through the review. Professor Percy Allan AM undertook the review and consulted extensively with stakeholders around Australia.
"I encourage the States and Territories to act quickly to consider the review's recommendations which aim to achieve a competitive and viable home builders' warranty insurance market," Senator Campbell said.
"The Commonwealth Government is willing to continue to work with the States and Territories to address this important issue through the Ministerial Council on Consumer Affairs."
Senator Campbell said the Government would examine ways to centrally collect and publish market data concerning home builders' warranty insurance premiums, claims and payouts, as recommended in the report. He said the Government already provided advice to industry in relation to self-regulatory and alternative dispute resolution measures.
