The Parliamentary Secretary to the Treasurer, Senator the Hon
Ian Campbell today announced the appointment of two new members to the Commonwealth
Consumer Affairs Advisory Council (CCAAC) - Mr John Knowles and Ms Diana Harvey.
Senator Campbell said that Mr Knowles, as CEO of the Cerebral
Palsy Association of WA, would make a valuable contribution to the Council,
with his experience of the unique problems facing Australians with disabilities.
"And Ms Harvey's experience as a primary producer in South
Australia will expand the Council's ability to look at the needs of consumers
in rural and regional areas," Senator Campbell said.
"The Council makes a valuable contribution to the Government's
awareness and understanding of issues facing consumers. It plays a very important
role in providing independent advice on developments that are likely to impact
on consumers.
"I am confident that the Council's work will continue to
greatly assist the Government in making sure consumer issues are identified.
I look forward to working closely with the new members," Senator Campbell
said.
The Council advises Senator Campbell on consumer needs generally,
as well as identifying emerging issues affecting consumers.
The Council comprises eleven members with a variety of backgrounds, experience
and expertise drawn from across Australia, who can ably represent consumer interests.
