Australia is an education exporter

  • $3 billion – the value of Australian education export earnings in 1999, outstripping wool and on a par with wheat.
  • 157,634 – the number of overseas students studying at school, university and post-compulsory education and training institutions in 1999. In 1999 this was an all time high.

  • 83,000 – the number of overseas students enrolled in post-school education and training courses in Australia in 1999.
  • 50 per cent – the percentage of all overseas students in 1999 that were studying business and finance sector related subjects.
