More Australians are choosing to shop online
- 802,000 adults (6 per cent of Australia's adult population) were Internet shoppers during the 12 months to May 2000. This is an increase of 152,000 adults from May 1999.
- Books and magazines (36 per cent of all internet shoppers), computer software (18 per cent of all Internet shoppers) and music (18 per cent of all Internet shoppers) were the most popular types of purchases.
- Four out of five (81 per cent) internet shoppers paid for all or part of their purchase online by giving their credit card details.
- Over one third (35 per cent) of internet shoppers spent $100 or less and 36 per cent spent between $101 and $500. However 11 per cent of internet shoppers spent over $1000.
