The Minister for Financial Services & Regulation, Joe Hockey, today welcomed Executive Vice Chairman Wang Chun Zheng of China and his delegation to the China Australia Economic and Financial Market Developments Symposium, held at Parliament House.
Executive Vice Chairman Wang and his delegation are in Australia to hold discussions with Australian officials and companies about financial sector reform and development in both Australia and China.
Executive Vice Chairman Wang is responsible for macroeconomic policy with the State Development Planning Commission. He is being accompanied by Mr Liu He, Executive Vice President of the State Information Centre and Mr Xie Ping, Director General, People’s Bank of China, along with other Chinese Government officials.
"Executive Vice Chairman Wang’s visit to Australia provides an excellent opportunity for our two countries to further our cooperative work aimed at enhancing the financial sector regulation of the region," Mr Hockey said.
"The China Australia Economic and Financial Market Developments Symposium provides a valuable opportunity for officials from both countries to discuss their experiences of financial sector reform."
The China Australia Economic and Financial Market Developments Symposium brings together officials across a range of economic and financial sector agencies from both countries.
The symposium is also being attended by representatives from some of Australia’s biggest financial sector companies with an interest in China.
"This builds on my recent trip to Hong Kong where Australia and Hong Kong agreed to work together to enhance the regulatory systems of the region as a whole," the Minister said.
