The Minister for Financial Services & Regulation, Joe Hockey, has released the Australian Competition & Consumer Commission's report into re-pricing by caravan park, relocatable home park and boarding houses.
"The ACCC has said that price changes for caravan parks and boarding houses due to the New Tax System changes alone were not unreasonable," the Minister said.
The report found that prices charged by caravan parks and re-locatable homes rose by between 2% and 4% under the input tax pricing option and by an average of 4.39% under the concessional 5.5% GST option.
Boarding house prices either did not change or generally rose by equal to or less than 5.5%. Any price rises above 5.5% were investigated by the ACCC and found not to involve the New Tax System.
The ACCC investigated 70 individual complaints that it considered warranted further investigation from a total of 300 complaints received. Where errors in pricing had occurred these were generally related to incomplete understanding of the correct treatment of the alternative methods.
The ACCC accepted undertakings from 2 boarding house operators to provide refunds to 47 current and past residents totalling $5330.13.
